This silver-wrapped druzy quartz necklace will definitely stop traffic. . . .

Imagine an uncountable mass of tiny crystals, each separate and
of slightly different size and orientation from its nearby cousins. Now
imagine them all packed together on an irregular surface of rock. Add color
- either the natural colors of the minerals or a vapor diffused added color
- and you'll have a druzy. There is NO glued-on glitter. If you have a
magnifier or a jeweler's loupe, you can easily see the individual crystals
and you can watch the way they interact when you tilt the stone.
The layer of druzy is sliced off and (sometimes) shaped. If there is not enough base rock left to support the druzy layer, a flat backer is added. If there is enough rock behind the druzy, the back is left as it grew or may be rounded off a bit. We offer you both kinds. Often, the natural backs are as beautiful in their ways as are the glittery fronts. Then we go for a “two-sider”: wear it on whichever side you prefer on any given day.
Then there is the color. Most traffic-stopping druzys are color-treated, usually with a chemical vapor diffusion (as mystic topaz is treated). The colors are permanent and do not fade in the sun. We’ve hung them in the Hawaii sun – just to test. They don’t fade.
Many of our druzys are naturally-colored. If the quartz crystals are clear rock crystal, the finished stone takes on the colors of the underlying rock. Some have natural coatings of hematite (red) or other mineral. Alternatively, the quartz crystals themselves may have the impurities that usually give color to quartz. Amethyst is purple quartz. Citrine is yellow quartz. Because of where and how each piece “grew up”, every single druzy quartz is unique.
Our specialty is following the natural contours of the stone. Thus, though the stone is secure, sometimes our silver wire seems to virtually disappear on the glittery side of the stone. We hope you love them as much as we do.
